Airbnb offering free housing to people stranded by Trump travel ban
Airbnb has offered free housing to people stranded due to a recent order signed by US President Donald Trump limiting travel into the US from certain countries.
The order has reportedly stranded refugees, students, and green card holders. Some travellers have been detained in airports.
A federal court order granted a stay of the executive order for people who had already started travelling before it was signed.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has subsequently offered free accommodation to those affected.
“Airbnb is providing free housing to refugees and anyone not allowed in the US. Stayed tuned for more, contact me if urgent need for housing,” said Chesky.
Airbnb told TechCrunch it would use its disaster response programme and that additional details about its plan will be shared in the coming days.
