Takealot clients have taken to social media after noticing that Takealot increased the price of standard deliveries and the minimum order value needed for free shipping.
Standard shipping is R60, while the the minimum order needed for free shipping has increased to R450.
Previously, it was R35 for standard shipping and a minimum order of R250 for free shipping.
Takealot told MyBroadband that its standard/economy delivery charge has been R60 since August 2016.
“This delivery charge fairly reflects the actual cost of delivery to our business, which before that point had remained unchanged for some time,” said Takealot.
The increase in the minimum spend needed to qualify for free delivery came into effect on 7 March.
“As we grow, we can’t continue to offer free delivery on orders below R450,” said Takealot.
“This wouldn’t be sustainable without increasing our prices and our delivery charges, neither of which we want to do.”
The best option for its customers is to increase the qualifying minimum spend amount for free delivery, said Takealot.
“Making this change allows us to keep our prices low, delivery charges the same, and keeps our delivery options competitive with other South African online stores.”
Takealot said its FAQ section outlines its delivery charges in full.
“To keep customers fully informed during their order process, we show them how close they are to the free delivery minimum spend in their cart summary while they shop,” said Takealot.
