Intermittent connectivity problems in South Africa on 26 June were due to an issue at Teraco’s NAPAfrica Internet exchange point in Johannesburg.
Websites were intermittently unreachable or responded slowly on the networks of several ISPs in the country.
“There was a misconfigured port on one of the switches that caused an interruption for 23 minutes,” Teraco told MyBroadband.
Traffic graphs for IX-Johannesburg, and NAPAfrica’s overall traffic, show that at around 13:30, there was a significant drop in traffic at the exchange. By 14:00, traffic returned to normal.
At the same time, there was a spike in traffic at NAPAfrica’s Cape Town and Durban exchanges.
