Many South African companies are making the most of their 404 pages using awesome images and messages.

A 404 page, which appears when a user requests a page which cannot be found on a server, has been part of the Internet since the nineties.

The 404 or Not Found error message is an HTTP standard response code, showing the client was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.

While many websites opt for the default 404 message – such as “Not Found – The requested URL was not found on this server” or “The webpage cannot be found” – it is possible to create a custom message.
