New Game of Thrones pirated 90 million times – MUSO

The first episode of Game of Thrones season 7 was pirated 90 million times, Ars Technica reported.

Anti-piracy company MUSO said that direct downloads accounted for 13.9 million of the 90 million.

It said the episode was downloaded 8.4 million times from public torrent trackers, 5 million times from digital file lockers, and 523,000 times from private torrent sites.

The remaining 76.1 million incidents were from pirate streaming sites. MUSO arrived at the figure by extrapolating the surfing habits of 200 million devices from 200 countries, visiting 23,000 of the most-used piracy sites.

MUSO confirmed to TorrentFreak it used SimilarWeb data for its analysis.

SimilarWeb gathers data from sources such as browser toolbars, traffic logs from ISPs, its web crawlers, and third-party websites and apps.

It should be noted that MUSO is the company which claimed Amazon’s The Grand Tour was the most pirated show of 2016, which TorrentFreak disputed.

MUSO conceded its findings at the time were for the UK, and not a global picture.
