YouTube’s head of music, Lyor Cohen, has revealed that Google may merge its Play Music streaming service and YouTube Red, The Verge reported.
Cohen made the statement during a panel discussion, where he said Google needs to merge the two services to help educate consumers and bring in new subscribers.
Cohen added that he wanted to work directly with music labels and rights holders.
Following the report, Google provided the following statement: “Music is very important to Google and we’re evaluating how to bring together our music offerings to deliver the best possible product for our users, music partners, and artists. Nothing will change for users today and we’ll provide notice before changes are made.”
