Amazon getting ready to launch in Australia

Amazon will open its first Australian warehouse and has named a German executive as the country manager, Reuters reported.

Amazon’s first Australian warehouse will be in an industrial area outside Melbourne.

Reuters reported that the national secretary for Australia’s National Union of Workers has expressed concern with the appointment of Rocco Braeuniger, formerly Amazon Germany’s director of consumables, as the country manager for Australia.

Employees of Amazon’s German unit went on strike in December over pay and conditions, and the National Union of Workers in Australia said it will do everything to ensure Amazon workers have the right to collectively bargain and organise in their union.

Amazon has not announced when it will launch its warehouse service in Australia.
