Over 12,000 org.za domains to be deleted next week

The ZA Central Registry is set to delete 12,613 org.za domain names on 1 September 2017, making them available for re-registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

This follows a two-year campaign to encourage org.za domain name owners to transfer their domains from ZACR’s legacy platform to the EPP platform.

ZACR is tasked with administering second-level domains, and suspended 15,420 org.za domain names on 1 September 2016.

“The unfortunate spectre of thousands of domain name deletions is looming… and it’s entirely avoidable,” said ZACR CEO Lucky Masilela.

“We urge org.za domain name owners who have not yet heeded our requests to migrate to ZACR-Accredited Registrars.”

A list of affected domain names is available from the ZA Central Registry.
