The Pirate Bay’s .se domain expires

The Pirate Bay’s Swedish domain, thepiratebay.se, has expired and was deactivated today, reported TorrentFreak.

The Pirate Bay bought the Swedish domain out of fear that US authorities might seize its original .org domain.

However, it was the Swedish courts which ruled that The Pirate Bay’s domain had to be confiscated and forfeited to the state, forcing the torrent site to move back to thepiratebay.org.

A Swedish Supreme Court appeal is pending, but according to the report, the court ordered the domain to be locked.

This may explain why it expired, said TorrentFreak.
