Google apologises for “disturbing” autocomplete results

Google has apologised for autocomplete results in YouTube where the phrase “how to have” returned suggested searches such as “sex kids”.

BuzzFeed reported that several users complained a YouTube search was autocompleting with paedophilic phrases.

It is suspected it could be part of a coordinated trolling effort.

“Earlier today our teams were alerted to this profoundly disturbing autocomplete result and we worked to quickly remove it as soon as we were made aware,” said Google.

“We are investigating this matter to determine what was behind the appearance of this autocompletion.”
