TorrentFreak, a website dedicated to news about BitTorrent and filesharing using this protocol, recently published the list of the most pirated movies in 2011.
According to TorrentFreak, Fast Five was the most downloaded movie of the year with over 9 million downloads, followed The Hangover II and Thor.
“The total number of downloads for Fast Five pales in comparison to last year’s victor, Avatar, which was downloaded more than 16 million times,” said TorrentFreak.
“This downward trend is also visible throughout the rest of the top 10, where the average number of downloads is lower than in 2010.”
According to TorrentFreak this drop may be partly explained by the higher number of legal alternatives and alternative piracy sources (such as cyberlockers and streaming sites).
The following table lists the most downloaded movies of 2011.
