Facebook tops with SA users

Facebook, Google and Yahoo top the list of sites used by South African mobile Internet users. Opera’s State of the Mobile Web report released yesterday found that unlike most of the other countries surveyed, Facebook is still as popular as ever with South African users.

The report, based on the habits of more than 14 million users around the world, found that South Africa ranks number six on the list of the ten countries accessing the Internet using the Opera Mini browser on their mobile phones, just one place behind the United States.

The country with the most unique browsers accessing the Internet through their mobile device was Russia, followed by Indonesia and India. Further down the list behind South Africa was Ukraine, United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, and Poland.

YouTube, Wikipedia and Microsoft’s Live.com search engine were also popular destinations for SA’s mobile users.

While Facebook was the most accessed site by South African users over the month of May, the social networking site only featured at number 5 among US users and number 4 among British users.

The top ten sites accessed by South African mobile users were: Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, Gamejump.com, Greystripe.com, Youtube, my.opera.com, Live.com and Peperonity.com.
