YouTube rolls out redesigned user interface
Google-owned video streaming platform YouTube is rolling out a redesigned user interface and a slew of new features, the company announced in a blog post.
YouTube said the changes are the result of input from thousands of viewers worldwide and that the redesign will improve how users watch videos.
“Starting today, we are rolling out a new look and several features that offer a more modern and immersive viewing experience while also improving how users watch videos,” it said.
YouTube links in video descriptions have been changed to buttons, and action buttons, such as like, share and download, have been redesigned to reduce distractions.
The company has also introduced a pinch-to-zoom and precise video-seeking feature to the platform.
The video-seeking feature lets users drag or swipe up to access a scrollable row of thumbnails to navigate a video.
According to YouTube, the revamped app leverages dynamic colour sampling to provide a subtle effect in the background that adapts to match the colour of the video being played.
The company said it had also made the platform’s Dark Mode even darker so that colours on web, mobile, and smart TV platforms “truly pop on your screen”.
