Number of domain names revealed

There are currently around 780,000 domain names, with between 100,000 and 140,000 net additions annually. This is according to Uniforum SA director Neil Dundas.

Dundas said that there are around 200,000 new registrations per year, but explained that the number of net additions are dragged down by between 60,000 and 100,000 deleted annually.

Dundas said that Uniforum recently launched a new registration system, making it much easier and cheaper for registrars to register new domain names.

The new system will continue to run alongside the legacy system which requires new website registrants to complete a basic *.txt file to register new domains which must then be mailed to [email protected] in plain text format.
