Most-viewed Wikipedia articles of 2023

Data from the Wikimedia Foundation has revealed that Wikipedia’s most-viewed article in 2023 is the page on OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Overall, the free encyclopedia website’s English pages accumulated over 84 billion page views during the year, with the ChatGPT page contributing 49.5 million.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT large language model chatbot launched in November 2022 and has been immensely popular since, surpassing 100 million users.

According to the Wikimedia Foundation’s data, the next most-viewed page was “Deaths in 2023”, which accumulated 42.7 million page views, followed by “2023 Cricket World Cup” on 38.2 million.

The “Indian Premier League” and “Oppenheimer (film)” pages achieved fourth and fifth place, with 32 million and 28.3 million page views, respectively.

Compared to 2022, the “Jeffrey Dahmer” page topped the most-viewed list with 54.9 million page views — approximately 5.4 million more than the top spot in 2023.

The Wikimedia Foundation’s top 25 most popular English Wikipedia pages in 2023 are listed below. Page views are rounded to the nearest 100,000.
