Flat-rated music streaming service launched in SA
Simfy Africa went live today (27 August 2012) after a pre-registration campaign that saw thousands of users pre-register, the music streaming service announced.
Users who pre-registered before midnight on 23 August 2012 were allowed to start their free trials 3 days before the official launch. This was due to the high level of interest shown during the pre-launch phase, Simfy said
“In just a few days, these lucky few have cumulatively listened to over 70,000 songs via 4,400 playlists,” Simfy said.
Simfy Africa is a partnership between the European streaming provider, Simfy, and local digital content company eXactmobile.
The service costs R60 per month and has a 14-day free trial available that offers access to 18 million songs, with Simfy saying that an average of 500,000 new songs are being added monthly.
Simfy Africa can be accessed on your PC through its Adobe Air application, and on up to 3 mobile devices (including tablets) with iOS, Android, and BlackBerry supported.
The applications offer an offline mode that lets subscribers download songs to a device to listen to, even when no Internet connection is available.
According to Simfy, it will also be the first streaming service world-wide to allow consumers of all SA’s mobile networks to pay via their mobile phone accounts. Subscribers can also pay by credit card, direct debit, and EFT.
Users can register for the service on the Simfy Africa’s website.
