South Africa’s most watched YouTube videos of 2012

Cult music group, Die Antwoord is top of the pops when it comes to the most watched South African video on Youtube in 2012.
Die Antwoord’s song titled: “I Fink you Freeky” has been viewed more than 21.28 million times at last count. It has garnered more than 5,000 comments, and was given the thumbs up 119,564 times versus 7,899 thumbs down.
“In terms of how we determine the lists, this year, we looked not just at views, but also shares, searches, likes and responses to identify the 10 videos that everybody was talking about in 2012,” a spokesperson for Google said.
“On YouTube people don’t just view a popular video, they remix, share, and parody, building a fan community that extends far beyond the watch page. We took all of this into account to ensure we truly captured the ‘watercooler moments’ of the year.”
The lists excludes advertisements.

Luke Mckend, Google SA country manager, said: “South Africans have embraced YouTube, creating and watching locally relevant content in several South African languages. They are part of a highly connected global community that uploads 72 hours of video every minute and watches four billion hours of video a month.”
The global Top Ten YouTube videos were also announced:
