Biggest social networks in South Africa

The number of active users on social networks in South Africa has grown tremendously in the last year, according to the 2013 SA Social Media Landscape report from World Wide Worx and Fuseware.

Arthur Goldstuck, MD of World Wide Worx, unveiled the results at an event in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 10 September 2013.

Twitter saw a massive 129% growth between August 2012 and 2013, Goldstuck said, adding that South Africans post 54 million tweets per month, 85% of which are from mobile devices.

Facebook’s growth in South Africa during the last 12 months was also the highest yet, Goldstuck said, with 87% of South Africans accessing Facebook from mobiles.

LinkedIn also grew from 1.9-million users in August 2012 to 2.7-million in 2013.

The active user numbers for Google+ in South Africa are exactly the same as those provided by PlusDemographics.com last year, likely due to a lack of new data.
