Music streaming service Rdio has expanded to 20 new territories, including South Africa, the company announced in a blog post on Wednesday, 11 December 2013.
In addition to South Africa, Rdio said that it will also be available in the following regions from today: Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Israel, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
According to Rdio, it now reaches people in 51 countries across six continents, making it the second largest music subscription service in the world in terms of countries serviced.
The Rdio website lists three price plans for South Africans, as follows:
- Web: R25, Unlimited web streaming;
- Unlimited: R60, Unlimited web and mobile streaming (Sonos & Roku included); and
- Unlimited family: R108 for 2 unlimited subscriptions, R138 for 3 subscriptions. Half price on subsequent subscriptions.
Rdio also has a free plan called “Rdio Free” which lets users trial the web and desktop apps for 6 months.
Although users can choose to play whatever songs they like ad-free, Rdio does place a limit on the number of songs that can be streamed for free in a month.
