Rdio-Shazam partnership extended to South Africa
Rdio, a subscription music streaming service, and Shazam, a music recognition application, announced an international expansion of their music discovery partnership to include South Africa today (Tuesday, 28 January 2014 ).
South African users of the Free and Encore version of the Shazam App for iOS and Android are now able to listen to entire songs after tagging them, by clicking the “Listen Free on Rdio” link within the app.
By connecting Shazam to Rdio, listeners can also create a playlist on Rdio called “My Shazam Tracks”, the companies said in a statement. This playlist automatically updates with every new song tagged in Shazam.
The partnership, which started during late 2012 in the United Sates, is now live in South Africa and an additional 28 countries around the world.
To listen to tagged tracks, users will either need an Rdio subscription, or be using the 14-day free mobile trial available from the music streaming service.
The Rdio Unlimited plan, which includes web and mobile streaming, is available for R60/month. A cheaper plan, Rdio Web, is available for R25/month, but does not allow streaming on mobile devices.
