Spotify has launched in South Africa, with two plans on offer.

- Spotify Premium – R59.99 per month.
The music streaming service is very popular internationally, and the company said it has 159 million active users – including over 71 million Spotify Premium subscribers.
At R59.99 per month, however, should you join the ranks of the Free users, or upgrade to the Premium tier?

While both plans let you listen to your favourite music, there are several major differences between them.

Streaming quality
According to Spotify’s support page, its music is streamed at different qualities – depending on which device you use.
Only Premium subscribers have access to high-quality streaming, while Free users can only listen to standard quality.

- High-Quality – 320kbit/s Desktop / 256kbit/s Web Player / 160-320kbit/s iPhone and iPad / 160-320kbit/s Android.
