Instagram testing verified-only feeds

Meta Platforms-owned Instagram is testing a feature that will let users limit the posts they see in their feeds to only those from verified accounts, The Verge reports.

While the company hasn’t specified the extent of the test, participants will see a new Meta Verified toggle under “Following” and “Favorites” when they tap on the Instagram logo at the top of the app.

“We’re exploring this as a new control for people and a way for businesses and creators to get discovered,” The Verge quoted Adam Mosseri, Instagram head, as saying.

He also encouraged participants to “let us know if you’d be interested in using this”.

The move could make Meta’s verification programme more attractive to some users, as their posts will appear more prominently in other users’ feeds.

Meta launched its verification programme for Facebook and Instagram in February 2023, giving subscribers a blue verification checkmark, better customer support, and protection from impersonation.

When signing up via the iOS or Android app, a Meta Verified sub on either Facebook or Instagram costs $14.99 monthly, while signing up via the web costs $11.99.

Meta Verified isn’t available in South Africa yet, but users can put their names on a waiting list for Facebook verification, priced at R199.99 when signing up via the web.
