X takes on LinkedIn with job searching tool

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has launched a job-searching tool for web users.
The website started offering a beta version of the tool to X-verified users in August 2023.
The feature has now been opened to all X users on the web, with a rollout to its Android and iOS apps happening “soon”.
MyBroadband used the tool to search for software engineering jobs in South Africa and got four results, three from the same company.
Other job listings were for “engineering” and management roles not related to software engineering specifically.

The listings included a brief description of the companies, job responsibilities, required qualifications, and a link to apply for the roles.
Clicking the link will direct users to a third-party site to complete their application.
X’s expansion into a jobs platform is part of owner Elon Musk’s ambition to turn it into the “everything” app.
While the jobs search feature is currently very basic, Musk has promised to make it “cool”.
He previously mocked Microsoft’s career-focused LinkedIn for being the most “cringe platform on the Internet”.
“People send me LinkedIn links sometimes, but the cringe level is so high that I just can’t bring myself to use it, so I ask for the resume or bio to be emailed,” Musk posted.
X has also been testing “job cards“, a dedicated post format for businesses who want to advertise open positions directly in their feeds.
