Testing parameters
For our research, we used the details of a 29-year-old male who had been driving for just over ten years.
He parked his car in a locked garage in a Centurion estate, had never had a claim, and had been signed up for car insurance for five years.
After setting up this profile, we entered the year, make, model, description, and type of cover required for a wide range of car models.
We used the base models of several of South Africa’s most popular cars — several of which were in the top 20 most-sold cars in the country in 2023.
These included the:
- Fiat 500 900T Cult – R268,999
- Hyundai Grand i10 1.0 Motion – R239,500
- Nissan NP200 1.6i Safety Pack – R245,300
- Renault Kwid 1.0 Life – R196,999
- Suzuki Swift 1.2 GA – R205,900
We requested a quote for comprehensive cover on each car, and Hippo produced results from 11 insurance companies for each model.
In the table below, we have listed the 11 quotes for each car and highlighted the three lowest (green) and highest (red) monthly premiums for each.
