South Africa’s most trusted IT services companies revealed
MyBroadband’s business technology survey revealed that Dimension Data/NTT Data, Datacentrix, and BCX are the most trusted IT services companies in South Africa.
The survey was completed by 783 respondents. Only responses from executives and managers who decide which ICT products their companies buy were considered.
Respondents were asked which IT services company they would select for a large project as part of the survey.
The results revealed that Dimension Data/NTT Data was the preferred service provider, with 39% of the vote.
Dimension Data was founded in South Africa four decades ago, and the company became a global winning IT giant.
It was listed on the JSE in 1987 and expanded further into Africa, the Middle East, and abroad before joining the NTT Group in 2010.
The company built an exceptional brand and became known for providing world-class IT services to clients across the globe.
Fourteen years after joining NTT Group, Dimension Data kissed its iconic green branding goodbye and rebranded to NTT Data in April 2024.
It has been doing business as NTT and Dimension Data for some time, which means its clients have not been taken by surprise.
Despite the recent rebrand, the Dimension Data brand remains a prominent landmark in the South African ICT market.
Datacentrix and BCX, which are also strong brands in the local market, ranked second and third in the survey.
Datacentrix is a leading hybrid ICT systems integrator and managed services provider focussing on Africa and the Middle East.
Recently, Convergence Partners, alongside the existing management team, acquired 100% of Datacentrix from Alviva.
Datacentrix CEO Ahmed Mahomed said that while the company’s roots are firmly planted in South Africa, it has ambitions to continue expanding into the continent and beyond.
“We are well positioned to deliver unparalleled value to its broad client base across Africa and the Middle East,” he said.
BCX, a subsidiary of Telkom, is one of Africa’s largest systems integrators and digital transformation partners for enterprises and public sector organisations.
Business Connexion was founded in 1996 by 23-year-old twin brothers Benjamin and Isaac Mophatlane.
The company was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in 2004 after a merger with Comparex Africa.
Telkom acquired Business Connexion in 2015, rebranded as BCX, and merged it with Telkom Business.
It has operations and clients in South Africa, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the United Kingdom.
It works with a range of businesses, from tiny start-ups to JSE-listed enterprises and international corporations.
BCX has partnerships with 48 of the world’s most respected technology providers. It is one of the largest Oracle Platinum Partners and holds a Gold Status Partnership with Microsoft.
It has the biggest data centre footprint in Africa, with offices in six African countries and the United Kingdom.
On the other end of the scale, EOH received the lowest share of the vote with 5%.
EOH used to be one of the most respected technology services companies in Africa, with a wide range of solutions.
However, it suffered severe reputational damage by becoming embroiled in state corruption and malfeasance.
EOH has struggled to recover and was forced to sell many of its most profitable units to address its high debt.
