The 2015 SEMA show will take place from 3-6 November 2015 in Las Vegas, and is billed as the “premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world”.
“It draws the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products to one place,” said the show’s organisers.
The 2014 SEMA event attracted over 60,000 buyers, and this year’s show is expected to see another great turnout.
Unlike other car shows, vehicle manufacturers don’t keep their latest and greatest designs hidden until the event is opened – with companies advertising what will be at the show beforehand.
Here are the more outrageous vehicles that were on show at SEMA 2015.
Custom 1970 Chevy Camaro RS
The Camaro RS comes with an LT4 crate engine that produces 484kW (650hp), and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
BMW M2 and M4 with M Performance parts
BMW will show off its M2 and M4 vehicles which have been upgraded with M Performance parts. This includes carbon aero kits, diffusers, and rear spoilers.
Mazda MX-5 Spyder and Speedster
The MX-5 Spyder is the convertible with the silver paint job, while the Speedster dons a coat of sporty blue. The latter has no roof or windscreen, in case you were considering ordering one.
Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept
A four-wheel-drive American muscle car with an 8-speed automatic gearbox – powered by a 5.7-litre V8 engine.
Chevy Silverado 3500HD Kid Rock Concept
It doesn’t get more USA than Kid Rock and a truck that could tow a cruise ship.
Hennessey Venom GT Spyder
The Venom GT Spyder features a 7.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine – power output is 1,082kW (1,451hp). That’s only 40kW less than an M1 Abrams battle tank.
Chevy Camaro Krypton Concept
A custom shade of green electroluminescent paint lights up with illuminated bowties when activated, ensuring heads are turned when driving by.
Jeep Wrangler Red Rock Concept
The Wrangler concept features 35-inch tyres on 17-inch rims, which, in combination with electronic locking differentials and a Rock-Trac transfer case, make it a formidable off-roader.
Toyota Mirai Back to the Future Concept
Marty would be proud of this Back to the Future tribute from Toyota, which sports gullwing doors, air suspension, 19-inch wheels, and LED lighting.
Toyota Land Cruiser TRD
This might interest a few South Africans – Toyota is showcasing a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) version of the Land Cruiser at SEMA 2015.
The concept Cruiser has been raised by 5cm and fitted with an underbody skid plate, remote-reservoir coilover shocks, a snorkel air intake, brush guard with LED lights, and 20-inch mags.
Honda’s Ridgeline Baja race truck will compete in the unlimited class at this year’s event, and is a preview of the production model which is scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2016.
