Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit was put on auction and bought by Porsche South Africa CEO Toby Venter for R205 million in July 2014.
Following the track’s transfer to its new owner, a massive upgrade plan for the circuit was announced – which commenced in May 2015.
The track will be resurfaced to international specifications, the main straight will be lengthened, corners will be modified, and safety upgrades to bring the track to FIA Grade 2 standards will be made.
Phase one of the project, which included a redesign and upgrade of the 4.522km race circuit, is now complete.
Upgrades to the pit building and conference facilities will also take place, with the overall upgrades now nearing completion.
