First self-driving car race ends in crash

Two electric driverless vehicles have competed in the first self-driving car race, during which one of the vehicles crashed, reports Electrek.

This was the first time the DevBot self-driving racers competed in a Roborace racing event, but the vehicles are still under active development and the event was aimed at testing their capabilities in a real-life racing situation.

The winning vehicle reportedly reached a top speed of 185 km/h during the race.

Roborace is a racing series for self-driving electric vehicles which aims to pit vehicle creation teams against each other.

Ultimately, all vehicles will sport the same design and specifications, with each team using its own software to gain the edge over opponents.

Below is a short clip of the vehicles in action and images of the aftermath of the crash.
