Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he is excited about the new Tesla Autopilot software rolling out next month, adding that the new control algorithm feels as smooth as silk.
Tesla Autopilot is an advanced driver assistance system, which the company said makes transportation safer and more enjoyable.
As Autopilot technology continues to be developed, more advanced functionality will be made available to Tesla owners. This will culminate in full self-driving capabilities.
Since September 2014, Autopilot hardware has come standard in all Tesla vehicles.
Musk said that a coast-to-coast test drive of a self-driving Tesla is planned for the end of the year.
He said any second-generation (HW2) Tesla vehicle – all cars built since October 2016 – will be capable of doing a coast-to-coast trip on autopilot.
