Audi Aicon is so safe, it doesn’t have seat belts

Audi has revealed its “four-door design vision”, the Aicon.

The autonomous car – with no steering wheel or pedals – will be an electric vehicle with a range of 700km-800km on a single charge.

“The Audi Aicon exploits every possibility offered by an autonomous luxury sedan of the future, with unprecedented consistency,” said Audi.

The car is large, measuring 5.4m long and 2.1m wide – with a 3.4m wheelbase, which is 24cm more than the long version of the new Audi A8.

Audi said the car will be powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel, with solid-body batteries installed in the area below the floor.

The motors will produce a total of 260kW and 550Nm of torque.

“Accidents will also be a thing of the past, thanks to the highly-advanced sensor systems and networking.”

“Passengers in an automobile like the Audi Aicon will therefore no longer need classic restraint systems,” said Audi.
