Uber drivers in Lagos, Nigeria are using a fake GPS app to increase their fares.
“When a driver uses Lockito for an Uber trip, he can have the fake GPS running from the pickup point to the drop-off location, before the passenger has even got into the car,” reported Quartz.
The increased fares when using Lockito can be double what the passenger should have paid.
The Uber drivers using Lockito justified their actions, saying they were a response to Uber’s 40% rate cut earlier this year.
The drivers allege that Uber knows about the app, but is not doing anything about it because it increases the company’s revenue.
Uber denied these allegations.
