Tesla has unveiled its new Roadster, an electric super car which Elon Musk called “a hardcore smack to gasoline cars”.
The Roadster boasts:
- 0-100km/h acceleration time of 1.9 seconds.
- 0-160km/h in 4.2 seconds.
- A top speed of over 400km/h.
- All-wheel drive.
- 10,000Nm of torque.
Musk said it will be the fastest production car ever made, and will feature a 200kWh battery pack embedded in its chassis.
This offers a 1,000km range on a single charge, said Tesla.
The Roadster features four seats, a sleek design, and a removable glass roof which can be stored in the trunk.
Tesla’s Roadster will be available in 2020 and is priced at $200,000 – with a base reservation of $50,000.
The Founders Series model is priced at $250,000.
Semi truck
Tesla has also unveiled its electric Semi truck, which boasts increased performance over regular diesel big rigs.
The Semi boasts an unladen 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5 seconds and consumes less than 2kWh per mile.
Tesla’s Semi truck also includes the company’s software suite, and has a range of 300-500 miles depending on load.
