Airbus working on hybrid-electric aircraft

Airbus has partnered with Siemens and Rolls-Royce to work on hybrid-electric aircraft.

The companies will develop the E-Fan X flight demonstrator, which uses two gas turbines and two electric motors.

E-Fan X will test the effects of high-power propulsion on electric motors along with the viability of electric propulsion systems for aircraft.

Rolls-Royce will create the turbo-shaft engine, generator, and power electronics for the E-Fan X programme, Siemens will deliver the 2MW electric motors, and Airbus will be responsible for overall integration.
