Toyota South Africa has provided more details on the models affected by a current recall campaign.
It was reported that Toyota SA had initiated a massive recall in the country this week – consisting of 700,000 vehicles – due to defective Takata safety bags.
Toyota stated that it was conducting a recall, but that the process commenced in July 2015.
“It affects some 730,000 locally-sold Toyota and Lexus models,” said Toyota.
The company told MyBroadband that the following models, within the specified production dates, are affected:
- Corolla: 2002-2007
- Run-X: 2002-2007
- Corolla: 2007-2014
- Auris: 2007-2012
- Hilux: 2006-2014
- Fortuner: 2006-2014
- Avensis: 2003-2007
- RAV4: 2003-2007
“Affected customers are contacted directly by Toyota SA as well as their dealers to bring their vehicles in for the repair which is conducted free of charge,” said Toyota.
Toyota SA has established a dedicated Takata Call Centre to locate affected customers, on 0800 139 111.
