South Africa’s top-rated car insurers according to Google reviews

Pineapple is the only car insurer in South Africa with an average Google review rating of above 4/5 stars.

This was our finding after we compared the Google reviews of South Africa’s most prominent car insurance providers.

Pineapple’s rating of 4.6/5 was followed by Auto & General and Naked Insurance, which achieved ratings of 3.9/5 and 3.8/5, respectively.

We used Google review scores to compare local insurance providers, as reviews are one of the most effective measures of customer satisfaction.

We selected Google reviews in particular, as this review platform requires reviewers be verified and only allows them to submit one review per business and per email address.

This drastically reduces the ability of businesses to flood their company’s Google listing with fake positive reviews in an attempt to inflate their average rating.

Google also employs several other methods to flag and remove suspicious and fraudulent reviews, including checking for bots, duplicate content, and specific word patterns.

This makes Google reviews a reliable benchmark for determining the quality of a business’s services and offerings, as well as for identifying its strengths and weaknesses.

For the car insurance comparison, MyBroadband prioritised companies that are well-known for their car insurance products. This was to avoid Google review ratings that cover products from a company other than car insurance.

Auto & General, Naked, Outsurance, Pineapple, King Price, and MiWay were the most popular car insurers among South Africans, based on the number of Google reviews.

Pineapple, however, was the clear leader – with a rating of 4.6/5 stars from almost 4,000 reviews.

This high number of reviews reflects a large, satisfied customer base and a large enough sample size to determine a reliable average.

According to Google, positive words like “consultant,” “patient,” “communication,” and “feedback” were key themes of Pineapple’s reviews.

Dialdirect Insurance was the worst-performing car insurer and the only one to score below 3/5 stars. It also had the lowest number of reviews overall.
