Google Glasses enabled for deaf users
Google’s futuristic augmented reality glasses are said to feature capabilities that assist hearing-impaired users in interpreting words and sounds.
A newly-filed patent shows that the Google Glasses can recognise and interpret sounds based on their frequency and pitch. The glasses’ heads-up display will then indicate where the sound is coming from, helping deaf users locate noise sources.
The lenses are also said to be able to translate words into text for the user, such as nearby dialogue being converted into speech text for a user with hearing disabilities.
The patent is titled “Displaying sound indications on a wearable computing system“, although there is no known current demonstration for the system at this time.
