How much do you know about broadband in SA?

South Africans received their first taste of true broadband when Telkom launched its ADSL service in August 2002, providing peak speeds of up to 512kbps.

At the time most South Africans accessed the Internet via dial-up or ISDN connections at speeds of between 56kbps and 128kbps.

The online environment has changed significantly since 2002, with the mobile operators joining the broadband race and many fixed-line and wireless providers offering fast, always-on Internet access.

Telkom has also increased its ADSL speeds significantly since the early days, and launched VDSL and fibre-to-the-home products.
