Four new elements have been added to the periodic table, following their verification by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
According to a report by The Guardian, the new additions are the first elements to be added to the table since 2011.
Man-made elements 113, 115, 117, and 118 now make up the seventh row of the periodic table, and have all been given placeholder names until official names are revealed.
“To scientists, this is of greater value than an Olympic gold medal,” Ryoji Noyori, a Nobel laureate in chemistry, told The Guardian.
