Tracker Skytrax e-mail notification problem
Tracker Skytrax device users have complained that they are not receiving e-mail notifications from the service as expected.
Notifications include information such as ignition on/off, harsh braking, or over road speed limit alerts.
The notifications are an advertised feature of the Skytrax unit.
The issue seems to only affect Gmail users, with a subscriber stating that when they contacted Tracker about the problem they were told a number of clients were affected.
The customer requested the service be cancelled if e-mail notifications were not working, but Tracker said if it can’t restore the services within 30 days, it will notify customers in writing. Only then would subscribers have the right to end the agreement.
Tracker e-mails flagged as spam?
Tracker confirmed there is a delivery problem with notifications for those who use Gmail.
The problem was not on Tracker’s side, and it suspects Gmail is classifying e-mails as spam.
The e-mails aren’t being sent to Gmail’s “spam” folder, though – Google does not appear to be delivering the notifications from Tracker at all.
Tracker said it has contacted Google about the problem, and is addressing the issue as a matter of urgency.
The issue would not impact Tracker’s vehicle location services, it said.
“In extremely rare cases, it may slightly delay the activation of the SkyTrax unit following a theft,” Tracker said. “However, to date we have not experienced a single case of this and are confident that the problem will be resolved soon.”
It added that the majority of Tracker clients do not have SkyTrax devices in their vehicles, but one of Tracker’s Radio Frequency-based units which are unaffected by notification emails.
Customers are invited to call the contact centre (0860 60 50 40) or visit the MyTracker online portal to update their email to a non-Gmail account.
