Hawks cybercrime unit seizes ATM skimming devices, 800 cloned cards

The Hawks’ cybercrime unit in conjunction with Crime Intelligence have arrested a Bulgarian couple who were found withdrawing money from an ATM using cloned bank cards in Sandton.
The couple had been under surveillance for a week ahead of their arrest on Tuesday‚ the South African Police Service said in a statement.
During a search at their residence‚ the Hawks found hi-tech ATM skimming devices‚ 800 cloned cards. They also seized 1‚500 cloned bank cards which were waiting to be cloned‚ R20‚000 cash as well as R66‚000 in foreign currency.
The couple will appear before the Johannesburg Specialized Commercial Court. They have been charged with unauthorized access to data‚ possession of a device that is designed to overcome security as well as fraud.
