Old ANC Twitter handle hijacked
“Mischievous characters” have taken over the ANC’s old Twitter handle @MyANC_, after the party changed its account name to @MYANC, the ANC has said.
News24 reported that ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said that their old account was “hacked”.
Kodwa’s response came after Twitter subscribers noticed a post by @MyANC_ which said: “If you don’t support Cde Jacob Zuma, we do not want your votes! #Elections2016”.
She confirmed that the ANC changed its handle on Twitter to @MYANC (without underscore) on 8 April 2016.
The new @MyANC_ account appears to have been created at 11:38 on 9 Apr 2016.
“We reject, with the contempt they deserve, the disturbing views as posted on the parody account, purporting to be those of the ANC,” Kodwa said
Kodwa said it had been reported to Twitter, and told News24 that it is not possible an ANC insider was behind the new @MyANC_ account.
She said that the party regarded it as an attempt at deliberately distorting its message and defocusing them on their campaigning.
