TechCrunch hacked by OurMine
The news website TechCrunch was hacked by a group called OurMine on 26 July.
TechCrunch confirmed the hack, stating that “an unauthorized individual compromised the WordPress account of one of our TechCrunch writers and used the account to post a story”.
“This was an isolated instance and we have secured the account. There was no risk posed to our readers or their data,” it said.
OurMine describes itself as “an elite hacker group known for many hacks showing vulnerabilities in major systems”.
The hackers posted an article titled “OurMine Team – Important Message!” on TechCrunch, which was deleted after a few minutes.
The post read:
Hello guys it’s OurMine Team, we are just testing TechCrunch Security, don’t worry we never change your passwords please contact us (https://ourmine.org/news/contact-us)
According to reports, the account of TechCrunch employee Devin Coldeweys was used to make the post.
