Hackers target Rio Olympics

Skycure has detected numerous security incidents targeted at tourists visiting the 2016 Rio Olympics.

“Expect the 2016 Summer Games to exceed the 2014 Soccer World Cup in Brazil, which saw almost 90,000 attacks in a 30-day period,” said the company.

Network exploits are popular, with hackers setting up malicious Wi-Fi networks for tourists to connect to.

Connecting to one of these networks could lead to personal information and passwords being stolen.

Hackers have also created malicious apps, designed to steal information and take control of a mobile device.

Malicious apps that masquerades as legitimate Olympic apps, such as the “Rio 2016” app, are popular.

The hacker has repackaged the app with additional code, which will deliver excessive ads or take over a device.
