IEC warns of phishing scam

The IEC on Tuesday warned people about an email doing the rounds asking for their personal information.

“The emails are being distributed by the ‘Independent Elections Council’ under the email address [email protected] and have ‘Electronic Voting Testing Phase’ in the subject field,” the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) said in a statement.

When a link in the email is clicked on, the user is taken to a site resembling the IEC’s and asked for login details. It is, however, not the same web address.

The IEC urged people not to respond to the email or open any hyperlinks in it.
