Nude celebrity pics hacker gets 18 months in jail
A man from Lancaster, Pennsylvania who admitted to running a phishing scam and stealing nude photos from female celebrities has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison, the Guardian reported.
According to the report, Ryan Collins pleaded guilty to federal hacking charges for phishing the passwords of over 100 people.
His victims included Jennifer Lawrence, Aubrey Plaza, Rihanna, and Avril Lavigne.
He tricked celebrities into providing their usernames and passwords by sending emails that appeared to be from Apple and Google.
The Guardian stated that Collins gained access to at least 50 Apple iCloud accounts and 72 Gmail accounts, many of which belonged to famous women.
In August 2014, personal photos of more than 100 women were posted online. This included private photos with the women posing nude.
The Guardian reported that the FBI did not find evidence to link Collins to the uploading or sharing of the data he stole, though.
