Crazy Cape Town criminal nailed

The City of Cape Town’s enforcement agencies recently arrested many suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol.

One of the drivers, who was apprehended by the City of Cape Town’s Integrated Roadblock Unit, stood out.

Officers attempted to stop a silver Mercedes Benz C Class as it did not have a front number plate and the driver was not wearing a safety belt.

The driver indicated that he would stop, but then sped off. Officers gave chase, during which the driver drove recklessly and disregarded many red traffic lights.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in Boundary Road, Cravenby after the driver lost control on a sharp bend and collided with bollards.

The driver then attempted to flee the scene on foot, but an officer caught him after a short chase into Fransie Van Zyl Drive.

The driver was arrested for the following offences:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • Reckless driving.
  • Possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
  • Tampering with a motor vehicle licence disc.
  • Failure to comply with a lawful instruction.
  • Fleeing the scene of an accident.

The driver was detained at the Bishop Lavis police station. The vehicle was previously reported stolen at the Lentegeur police station.
