Top 10 DDoS attack source countries
Akamai has released its Q3 2016 State of the Internet Security Report, which revealed that China is the top source country for DDoS attacks.
The report, using data gathered from the Akamai Intelligent Platform, provides analysis of the current cloud security and threat landscape.
The third quarter of 2016 marks a full year with China as the top source country for DDoS attacks, with just under 30% of attack traffic this past quarter.
The proportion of traffic from China was down by 56%, which had a significant effect on the overall attack count and led to an 8% drop in attacks seen this quarter.
The United States, United Kingdom, France, and Brazil made up the remaining top five source countries.
It’s important to note that UDP attacks, including fragmentation, were not included in this metric.
This is in part due to the ease with which these attacks can be spoofed and could create distortion of the data.
