Russian hackers take down Afcon website

A group of Russian hackers claimed to have shut down the website of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament on Saturday.

According to a report by the Associated Press, CAFonline.com was taken down for several hours by the New World Hackers.

At the time of writing, the CAFonline site was working. A Cloudflare DDoS “checking your browser” page was displayed before the site loaded.

The hackers told AP that the attack was due to the soccer tournament being held in Gabon, where President Ali Bongo Ondimba “retained power in disputed and violent elections last year”.
