WannaCry infects speed cameras in Australia

The police minister of Victoria, Australia announced that fines from speed cameras will be suspended after the devices became infected by the WannaCry ransomware, The Age reported.

Service provider RedFlex repaired and rebooted 42 infected cameras without informing the Department of Justice and Regulation about the issue.

Police Minister Lisa Neville said they couldn’t be sure that the other 280 red light and speed cameras weren’t affected as well.

She confirmed that 97 cameras were definitely infected. It was estimated that up to 8,000 fines have been suspended, and 1,643 fines have been withdrawn.

While the fines have been suspended, Neville warned they may be reinstated.
