A 31-year-old engineering research associate at MIT was arrested on insider trading charges after allegedly Google searching the crime, Star Telegram reports.
The court papers allege the accused ran searches with phrases such as “how sec detect unusual trade” and “insider trading with international account.”
He also allegedly read an article titled “Want to Commit Insider Trading? Here’s How Not to Do It.”
The man is charged with earning $120,000 in illegal profits from secrets stemming from two corporate mergers last year. He was freed on $500,000 bail after appearing in a Boston court.
AP reported that prosecutors allege the man got his tips from his spouse, a lawyer at an international law firm.
